What Is Creative Trading Solutions?

Origin

Creative Trading Solutions began in 1991 as a proprietary trading methodology developed by Matthew J. Goss, Jr. during his years as a COMEX/NYMEX trader at the New York Mercantile Exchange. Over three decades of continuous development, the methodology evolved from a personal trading framework into a formal classification system.

What Goss developed independently through direct market observation, academics would later formalize as regime-switching models — most notably Hamilton's 1989 Markov-switching framework. The CTS Mode of Behavior system arrived at the same structural insight through different tools: markets cycle through distinct behavioral regimes, and identifying which regime is active tells you more about probable behavior than any single indicator.

What CTS does

CTS classifies financial instruments into distinct behavioral modes. Each mode describes a recognizable pattern of market behavior — trending, consolidating, transitioning, or exhibiting other structured dynamics. The classification uses triple signal analysis across multiple timeframes to identify which mode is active.

The output is not a trade recommendation. It is a classification: this instrument is currently in Mode X, which historically exhibits these behavioral characteristics. What you do with that classification is your decision.

The Mode of Behavior framework

The Mode of Behavior (MoB) system defines a matrix of distinct market modes. Each mode is identified by the alignment (or misalignment) of signals across multiple timeframes. The specific mode definitions, signal construction, and classification logic are proprietary — developed over 30+ years of market observation and refinement.

The key insight is that markets don't move randomly, and they don't move in simple trends. They cycle through structured behavioral regimes, each with its own characteristics. Identifying the current regime — not predicting the next price move — is the foundation of the CTS approach.

CTS on Quantiterate

The CTS vertical on Quantiterate delivers mode classifications for crypto instruments. Free users see basic classification data. Pro users get full multi-timeframe analysis, historical mode tracking, and detailed Mode of Behavior breakdowns.
